TOPIC: God Is the Door to Freedom

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved.” – John 10:9 (ESV)

Daily Hope Devotional 14 April 2022 MESSAGE

You don’t need to be behind bars to be in prison. Why? Because the most common prison is in the mind.

A relationship can be a prison when it makes you feel trapped. Debt can be a suffocating prison that you don’t think you’ll ever escape. A tradition can be a prison because it confines you and doesn’t let you embrace the freedom God wants you to have. A painful memory can lock you behind steel doors of pain. Depression, fatigue, and shame can also be prisons.

The good news is that God wants to break you out!

God wants you to be free. When he opens doors, they’re pathways to something good. But before God can get you to where he wants you to go, he has to get you out of the prisons you’re in.

How does he do it?

First, he shakes things up. When Paul and his friends were in prison in Acts 16, God brought about an earthquake. Sometimes God has to shake your foundations—particularly your foundational beliefs—to get you out of prison, too. He’ll send an earthquake into your life to shake up those beliefs so you’re ready for the freedom he wants to give you.

Second, he plugs you into the power of the resurrection. That’s what Easter is all about. Jesus’ resurrection is the most powerful event in history. God makes that power available to you every day.

Paul says in Ephesians 1:19-20, “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms” (NLT).

The same power that opened Jesus’ tomb will open the prison doors that are holding you back. That’s real freedom! You just have to believe and trust God to provide for you in this way.

Over the next three days, I’ll share three specific ways that Jesus wants to bring you freedom.

Talk It Over

  • Why do you think God has to shake up our lives in order to set us free?
  • What are some prisons you’re in now that you desperately need God to set you free from?

God’s Freedom Is Available to You Today

If you’re ready to submit to Jesus Christ as Lord, then there is no reason to wait! You can pray this prayer today: “Father, you promised that for those who believe in Jesus, there is no condemnation. You sent Jesus to save the world, to save me. His death on the cross paid for every wrong I’ve ever done or will do. And by sacrificing himself for my sins and giving me his righteousness, he made it possible for me to have a relationship with you.

“But I understand the good news of Easter doesn’t stop there. You also raised Jesus from the dead, proving your power over sin and death. And that makes it possible for me to spend eternity with you in heaven.

“Thank you for all that you’ve done for me! I confess my sin, and I accept Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to you. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you. I commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.com and let me know about it. I’d like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.

Salvation Prayer

Have you ever made Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life?

If not, pray this prayer and start a new life in Christ.

Dear God, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved (Rom. 10:9). I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for saving me! In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time, we would like to know.  Click here to send us an e-mail or share your testimony.
