Scripture Union Daily Guide 25 December 2022 MESSAGE
In Matthew’s gospel, we see Joseph as the primary figure in the announcement of the birth of Jesus. Matthew shows that Jesus is part of David’s lineage through “Joseph, son of David” (v.20), as addressed to him by the angel. What lessons can we learn from Joseph’s character and attitude when he faced his fianc?e’s “supposed” sin (v.19)? So many girls have been suffering unjustly, as in the case of rape, where all the blame rests on them and as a result are despised and rejected by society.
When we have to make great decisions, to whom do we usually go first or from whom do we seek counsel? Observe how the angel of the Lord relieves Joseph of his dilemma (v.20). Mary’s pregnancy is an act of the Holy Spirit. Jesus, the son to be born, will “save His people from their sins” (v.21; Isaiah 7:14).
The Lord will always show us the truth. Note that Joseph accepts these facts and did what he was told to do. What an example of true devotion and obedience to God’s commands! What can you learn from Joseph in v.25?
Practice/Word Application

Salvation Prayer
Have you ever made Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life?
If not, pray this prayer and start a new life in Christ.
Dear God, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved (Rom. 10:9). I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for saving me! In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
