TOPIC: That I May Know Him

MEMORY VERSE: I Timothy Phil 3:10 “That I may know him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering being made conformable unto his death”

TODAY SCRIPTURE: Phil. 3:10-12, Ephesians 1:18-20, John 17:3, 1 John 2:3.

INTRODUCTION: The word “To Know” as used in Phil 3:10 means to Recognize, to Become Acquainted With. It’s a knowledge gained not by hearing or reading but a direct Personal encounter, a revealed knowledge or better still, it’s Christ revealed by an encounter in the place of communion. It’s a sanctified dissatisfaction within that calls us to be conformed to His likeness (Ps 17:15). It’s like the hart panting after the water brooks (Ps 42:1). This knowledge is experienced at salvation and deepens as we desire Him in fellowship and study of the word.

Let’s X-ray this knowledge with the subtopics below:

1. THAT I MAY KNOW HIM: Phil 3:10, Ps 17:15; 63:1-3.

A sanctified dissatisfaction is the first essential to progress in our walk with God. Paul despite his several encounters as an apostle was still not satisfied with his Christian life. A child of God becomes satisfied when he begins to compare himself with other Christians who invariably are not making progress. How is your experience with the Lord, How deep and satisfying is your walk with Him. Can you truly say I know Him. When you are confronted with the issues of life how easily do you fetch out the needed solution to the fellow who met you or to yourself?.

TO KNOW HIM WE NEED TO (1) Dwell in the secret place of Communion with Him Ps 91:1; (2) Spend time with God’s word Ps 119:111, Jos 1:8, 2 Tim 2:15; (3) Fellowship with the brethren Acts 2:42; (4) Live in obedience to Him and His word. 1 Sam 15:22; (5) Be willing to please Him in all things Ps 16:11; 40:8.

2. THE FELLOWSHIP OF HIS SUFFERING BEING MADE CONFORMABLE UNTO HIS DEATH

Phil 3:10, Col. 3:1-6 , 1 Cor 15:31 The way up is down! To have a crown there must be a cross! To truly live is to die, and there is no resurrection without crucifixion. To know the quickening power of His resurrection, we must need share in His suffering. It’s not a mere external resemblance but to a deep, real inner conformity to His image and likeness. It’s deadness to self, to what you want, to the world and it’s pleasures. The early apostles were crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20). It’s a switch from pleasing self to pleasing God (Heb 11:24-27). If you must triumph always then stay with the cross in the place of pleasing God rather than self.

3. THE POWER OF HIS RESSURECTION Phil. 3:10; Rom 8:1-4, 11, 17, 18.

It’s that life that cause us to walk in newness of life, It’s the ZOE life that makes you live above sin and the flesh, It makes you dead to the flesh but alive to the spirit’s call. It’s called the Law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1). The Christian life becomes a struggle when the power of His resurrection is missing. It’s what gives us joy (the fuel) when serving the Lord no matter the challenges. It’s what causes us to triumph always (2 Cor 2:14). It’s the secret of every expected victory because the ZOE life will always cause us to triumph. It’s the above life over defeat, failure, shame, lack and all the darts that the enemy will throw at us.

4. ALL ABOUT JESUS THE SERVANT KING Phil 2:1-8, Heb 1:9.

Our master and King was a servant, born in a manger, lived and gave His life that we might live. He lived never for himself but others. The truly great are those who live not for themselves but others. There is a difference between service and fellowship. It’s only service that places you in God’s exclusive list or payroll. Service has a voice and can speak for you in your time of need. Offer your life a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1).

The killing of twins stopped because of the servant example of Mary Slessor. Serve in His vineyard, solve a problem to God’s glory. We were born to serve and not to be served. David, Abraham, Daniel, Joseph, Paul, Bezaleel, Rev. Stephen Akinola all served their generation. The debt you owe your generation is service. Discover it in purpose and serve your generation like our Servant King. There is a problem with your name written on it for you to solve, it can only be solved in the place of service to your generation. Pay that debt of service before you die.
