TOPIC: Upholding the Christian Standard(1)
MEMORISE: “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine : in all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works. In doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity sincerity , sound speech that cannot be condemned ; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed having no evil thing to say of you. Titus 2:1, 7-8.
MESSAGE: All over the world, the issue of upholding standards in every sector is critical to the survival of the organization.
Today, experts are employed to ensure proper regulation and standard implementation in almost all establishments including schools, hospitals, churches, manufacturing companies etc. we are told that one time ago, Toyota company had to recall already sold vehicles of a particular brand of their product when they realized that there was a compromise on standard. To them, their products represent their integrity.
Established organizations such as NAFDAC, SON etc are bodies set up by the Government to check, monitor and prosecute those who produce substandard products that do not meet up with the stipulated standards. If the society views non compliance with standards as critical to the survival of the State, organizations and institutions and hence set up stiff measures to handle defaulters, then heaven views. upholding of spiritual standard as also being very key to our existence and must not be treated with kit gloves.
WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN STANDARD? Josh 1:8; Prov. 4:2-4;
It is the fundamental truths of God’s word that does not change overtime. The old story of Calvary as foreseen by the prophets , upheld by the Apostles and manifested by Christ on whom the Scriptures revolve is ever new and cannot be revised. The pathway to salvation, sanctification, holiness, purity, justification etc are landmarks that cannot be removed no matter the “spiritual civilization”. It is the fulcrum on which truth spins out undiluted.
These standards were the same when our fathers handed over to us. We believed without questioning , preached using ourselves as examples and practiced wherever we went without fear of persons. Like John the Baptist, we were ready for a pound of our flesh at the expense of our defence for the truth.
We knew that one of the antics of the devil is to distort the truth , we understood his modus operandi and within the same bounds of scriptures we withstood all that was contrary to the gospel we believed . The word was and has always been our mirror for standard measurement and our resolve to rise up to the defense of it is unquestionable.
2 Tim.3:1, 4:1-4.
Paul’s presentation in 2 Tim.4:1-4 perfectly pictures the today’s church. Sandwiched with assorted men and women behind the pulpit who in every assessment do not have any thing to do with the Gospel . With the increase in church structures, we also have an overwhelming increase in spiritual decadence . Nobody seems to care and to peep into the affairs of the church to checkmate excesses. Any attempt by the old time men who have seen God’s glory in the early 70s to correct this doctrinal menace is often viewed as witch hunting .
Organizations such as PFN and CAN which should have been saddled with upholding standards have been politicized in some quarters and only those who are smart ( not spiritually ) struggle to go in and acquire what they can. People who come into leadership position through questionable circumstances certainly do not have the moral standards to uphold standards. What a paradox! The organizations themselves need help
